Action-Adventure
Unreal Engine 5 - Blueprint - PC - May/June 2026
28 students - 1½ month
Vae Victis is an action adventure game made with Unreal Engine 5.
I worked in a team of 5 Gameplay Programmers, 3 Game Programmers, 7 Game Designers, 7 Game Artists and 4 Sound Designers.
Play as Alfio, who has returned to his hometown after learning that a coup is underway.
Fight your way through the streets of Brescia, blade in hand, to confront your enemies.
Combat is built around a parry-and-riposte system as its core mechanic. Every attack and parry relies on a precise timing window.
My Work on this Project
Nemesis - Boss Fight
The boss was made using a State Tree and an AIController. Its behavior varies depending on several parameters, such as its distance from the player or the most recent patterns it has used.
Bubble Dialogues
Bubble dialogues use Unreal's Widget Components to make it easy for the Game Designers to place dialogues wherever they want in the level, as well as Data Assets to make them editable through an intuitive interface.
Telegraph Decal Shader
Enemy patterns are represented by this shader. It is easily adjustable via several parameters that can be modified directly within the animation montages.
Shockwave Post Process Shader
The player's successful parries are rewarded with this visual effect, which uses Unreal's Post Process Materials.
